THE DANGERS OF SUNTANNING
“Tans are not always fun and good – there are some dangers. Be careful of:

  1. Moisturiser – don’t use too much moisturiser or else you’ll be slipping and sliding around whenever you move. I once put on so much moisturiser I was as slippery as a bar of soap and couldn’t stand still without falling over. Honestly.

  2. Fake tan overload – don’t use too much of this – it can ruin the colours of your clothes, especially clothes that
  3. colour stain easily like lycra or spandex! Fake tan can also make glitter on your clothes drop out.
  4. Lizards. Yep. When you are lounging around in the sun you are just like a reptile – that’s what reptiles do to keep warm. Be careful or else a lizard might think you are a fellow reptile basking in the sun and they will sit beside you or try to communicate with you. Also, if you are lounging like a lizard in the sun you may find yourself surrounded by nature film crews working on documentaries.
  5. An uneven tan – make sure your tan is even. Otherwise, if different parts of your body have different levels of tan you may be distracted by this tricky situation and always looking at yourself comparing your tan. This can be dangerous – you may be staring at your biceps whilst you are driving, jogging or
eating and could easily cause an accident.

Antonia has done some research for Mr. Dorsey on the effects of suntanning, that thing that humans do to make their skin to look ‘good’. Here’s what she found…

Forget what Coach Shane says, after hours of research here are Antonias…TOP TIPS FOR KEEPING SAFE IN THE SUN WHILE YOU SEARCH FOR ATLANTIS OR WATCH ANTHONY AT THE BEACH

  • Don’t spend too much time unprotected outside between 10am-4pm. That is when the sun is at it’s strongest and there is even harmful reflective light in the shade.
  • Keep babies who are younger than 6 months old out of the direct sun
  • Kiddies who are over the age of 6 months, older children, teenagers and adults should always wear SPF 15 and over broad spectrum sunscreen
  • Sunscreen should be applied at least 20 minutes before you go out in to the sun to give it a chance to soak in to the skin. It sjhould be re-applied every 3 to 4 hours. Don’t forget your lips, ears, hands and feet too!
  • Remember that white clothes (especially if they get wet) transmit nearly the same amount of light as bare skin! Wear dark clothes as much as you can.
  • The sun’s rays can pass through clouds so even on a yukky day 80% of these rays will get through!
  • The suns rays reflect off sand and snow, so always wear some kind of SPF moisturiser or sunscreen.
  • Remember, tanning beds and booths are not really safe either as they emenate UVA radiation.
  • Don’t forget that even olive or dark skin can still burn.

IN CONCLUSION…So all in all, Mr. Dorsey, it looks like despite what Coach Shane says, the only safe way to get ‘healthy’ looking tanned skin is to fake it! Get yourself down to your local beauty place and get t
hem to sort out your skin or buy some fake tan and apply it yourself at home. Well maybe not you Mr. Dorsey, because your skin is kinda green…

COACH SHANE ON SUNTANS 1

COACH SHANE ON SUNTANS

“Hey there, I’m Coach Shane. Everybody in Sunset Cove asks me how they can get a good suntan – because I know everything about suntans. If you want to get with the gameplan then here is my guide to suntans…”

QUICKTIME MOVIE ON SUNTANS

ATLANTIS HIGH AND SUNTANS “Any time of the day in Sunset Cove you can see a whole heap of gorgeous gals and hunky guys tanning their hides at the beach. Glistening bodies toast themselves by the sea all day long – and s
ometimes in to the night.

Why do they bother you may ask? Because in Sunset Cove you will stand out unless your tan is perfect – most folk here look amazing and have fantastic tans. But tans fade
out. So you gotta keep your tan up or else you won’t have a tan anymore – and you’ll be like a bug in a bowl of soup: very noticeable, and something that nobody wants to encounter.

The right kind of tan is vital. You will never get through the Tanometer machine that I run at Atlantis High school if you do not have the right kind of tan. Don’t even try to fool me with that fake stuff! It just gets all streaky and stains your clothes. And that is not a good look”.

COACH SHANE’S 5 POINT TAN GAMEPLAN

So how do you get the perfect tan? Here’s my gameplan on what you need and what you do:

1 – Sit in the sun – hey it may be obvious but you won’t get a suntan sitting indoors. Stay outside to get a tan – there are always volleyball g
ames, surfing parties, BBQ’s and campfires to show off that brown bod and to catch a few more rays. That’s step one.

2 – Buff your body – it helps to have good muscle tone the more muscles, the more tan on your body because there’ll be more of you for the sun to tan!

3 – Use Moisturiser – because it stops your skin getting too dry and means you can get more tan .

4 – Use a mirror – oh yeah, I like this one! If you put a mirror in front of your face, the sun will shine and reflect off the mirror onto your face, giving you a better tan – and if you hold it properly, you can look at your own reflection! I like that so I can check out my fabulous muscles.

5 – Use fake tan – easy to roll on the skin, giving you a tan instantly”

THE ATLANTIS HIGH GUIDE TO APRIL FOOLS DAY

THE ATLANTIS HIGH GUIDE TO APRIL FOOLS DAY

The 1st of April is best known as April Fools Day. It is greatly celebrated in Sunset Cove although some pranks are hard to recognise because of the strange nature of Sunset Cove anyway.

THE HISTORY OF APRIL FOOLS DAY
There is no set date of when April Fools Day first started – but in the 16th century the 1st of April was the first day of spring and often considered the start of the New Year. When the calendar was developed New Year celebrations were moved to January 1st but some obstinate people still celebrated on April 1st. These people were thought to be silly because it wasn’t the correct date. They were said to be “fools” and pranks were played on them.

APRIL FOOLS IN SUNSET COVE

There are always jokers in society and Sunset Cove is no different. The biggest prankster in Sunset Cove is believe it or not – Coach Shane. Although he loves himself to bits he can’t resist playing jokes on other people.

Coach Shane’s Mum was wearing her best white shirt one April Fools Day – Coach Shane sprayed ink all over it! Lucky it was invisible ink and was gone within a few seconds.

He’s also placed fake spiders in Violet Profusions draw – told Vita that she had won the lottery and pretended he was dead!

In Sunset Cove everyone surfs. There are nuns that surf and grandmothers that surf. One year in Sunset Cove the local radio station put out an urgent news bulletin telling everyone that surfing had been banned in Sunset Cove until further notice. Everyone was flabergasted! They later retracted the statement reminding everyone they’d been “April Fooled”.

Some people don’t take “fools” very well. Sophie had a prank played on her one year and the boy who did it never forgot. Sophie was so enraged that she sent her poltergeist to teach him a lesson. He ended up suspended by his underwear on the school roof. Sophie didn’t keep him there for long and he apologised.

So remember, April Fools Day is a great day to play harmless pranks but make sure the person can take a joke.

MR DORSEY’S GUIDE TO ATLANTIS 2

MR DORSEY’S GUIDE TO ATLANTIS

Atlantis and I continued…

I now have a very keen assistant – Antonia. She has something called a “crush” on me, and she’s been helping me with my project. I am very grateful for her help and she found something very interesting. She found a quote saying “An H and an A will lead the vay” – if only we knew what it meant.

I feel like we are running in circles and squares and oblongs. But there are still many places to look. I’ve been out on a boat with Antonia but we didn’t really find much of importance. I’ve seen a cake that looked like Atlantis, I’ve searched the school looking for a link and I’m just about out of ideas!!

We have found many things that represent A and H but we have to find the right one if we are to succeed!

There are many people in Sunset Cove that could probably help me but everyone living in Sunset Cove is a little mysterious. They all seem to have a mission that they are undertaking. Everyone knows something but no one wants anyone else to know.

I sink zat Octavia knows something about Atlantis but zen I get zee feeling that she is working for somebody else already. I have to be very careful to keep my head down or I will get found out.

My locator beacon seems to be playing up and leading me all over zee place. Perhaps it is leading me in the right direction and I am not seeing why

Sunset Cove has many secrets and I believe it holds zee secrets to zee Lost City of Atlantis – and hopefully I will have the answers soon.

MR DORSEY’S GUIDE TO ATLANTIS 1

MR DORSEY’S GUIDE TO ATLANTIS

My name is Mr Dorsey and I am zee Science teacher at Atlantis High. I’m on the search for zee lost city of Atlantis. I’ve been researching Atlantis for many years now, so here is my guide.

Zee Atlantis Mystery
A famous Greek philosopher Plato (not Pluto like the planet) first wrote about zee misfortunes of Atlantis. He claimed zee story was true and that zee continent of Atlantis lay in zee Atlantic Ocean near zee Straits of Gibraltar and met it’s fate 10,000 years before he heard of it’s story.

Atlantis was a prosperous nation, a great and vonderful empire, run by a Utopian government (whatever Utopians are?). It was said to be zee size of Europe boasting beautiful cities, and advanced technology.

But Atlantis disappeared!! The disappearance was said to be punishment sent by the Greek God Zeus. The people of Atlantis had been a peaceful race but had bought about this punishment by becoming greedy over time and trying to expand their domain.

Another theory was that Antarctica was Atlantis. Maps drawn of Atlantis thousands of years ago are similar to Antarctica. And recently it has been proven that there was once life on Antarctica.

But Atlantis was known to hold great secrets of success and the answers to all questions.

Atlantis and I

I and my fellow Phenorgians have been looking for Atlantis for many light years. We know it holds zee key to many secrets and could help save our civilization on Phenorg.

General Yen and Haj have trusted me with the earthly mission of finding Atlantis.

Our planet is very small and our population is not growing – we need the secrets of Atlantis to keep our species thriving.

I came to earth with my mission in my mind. I knew that I had to find it. I knew very little and what information I could get from zee humans was very confusing. They tell me one thing, zen they tell me another thing and zen I don’t know which thing is what!

There have been some suggestions that the Atlantis High School has been built on zee lost city of Atlantis but I need proof!
